To care for a coffee plant, place it in bright, indirect light and maintain high humidity by misting or using a humidifier. Water the soil until it's moist but not waterlogged, checking that the top half is dry before watering again. Fertilize during the growing season (spring and summer) and avoid it in the fall and winter.

Light

  • Provide bright, indirect light: A good spot is near a window but not in direct, harsh sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
  • Tolerates medium light: It can survive in lower light conditions, though it may not grow as full.

Watering

  • Keep soil moist:

The soil should be kept moist but never soaked. Water thoroughly until excess liquid drains out the bottom.

  • Check the top layer:

Water when the top inch or two of the soil feels dry to the touch.

  • Adjust seasonally:

Water more frequently in the spring and summer than in the fall and winter.

  • Use quality water:

Prefer rainwater or filtered water, as coffee plants can be sensitive to lime.

Humidity

  • Increase humidity:

Coffee plants are tropical and thrive in humid environments. Mist the leaves several times a week or use a humidifier.

  • Use a pebble tray:

Place the pot on a tray of pebbles filled with water to increase humidity around the plant, making sure the pot isn't sitting directly in the water.

Feeding

  • Fertilize in the growing season: Feed every other watering during the spring and summer months to support its growth.
  • Do not fertilize in winter: Avoid fertilizing in the fall and winter when the plant is dormant.
